She says is this the return to Oz? The grass is dead, the gold is brown and the sky has claws...
Hi there, I'm Hiriajuu and I'm bringing my first review to you. I was just wandering around my owned and wished figures, and noticed that a very few of them have been reviewed properly, so I thought I'll give it a try myself. I'm not that fluent in english, but I'll do my best... Well then, the victim is the 1/7 scale Gothic Lolita Suzumiya Haruhi by Griffon Enterprises, which I bought some weeks ago at an anime convention (I paid 120$ for her, but she's worth it).
Packaging: 8/10
The box is pretty nice, but I find it a bit too big for the figure (and that's because of the damn unnecessarily large base), and there goes one point minus. It is red and white with the usual H for Haruhi on it (it pretty much looks the same as the box for the Haruhi nendoroid), with the pic of the figure on every side (well except the bottom). It fits the colour theme of the figure well. It has a larger window in the front, and also smaller ones at the top and on the two sides. Thanks to those I could identify her at the anime con very easily, despite the fact that she was put on the top of a large china case. But I also noticed that this recognition was eased by Haruhi not being protected very well, no infinite layers of plastic bags or stuff, and there goes the other point minus.
Posing: 10/10
The pose is absolutely perfect, it is very dynamic with that wawing hand and just as hyper and Haruhi is. I found her proportionally correct too, which is good. Im a bit afraid of leaning however, since her right leg is a bit raised and someone wrote that hers started to lean. Well, hope for the best.
Sculpting: 10/10
Sculpting is perfect again, she is impressively detailed with all those frills and ribbons everywhere. I sipmly love her outfit. The only thing that i find slightly disturbing is the shoes. They look a bit strange to me, not enough 3D, as if they had melted onto her legs or are too small for her. But i guess it's just my special problem, I don't like those shoes.
Painting: 8/10
Painting is definetly not the best part of this figure, but it's still great. The colour scheme is very simple: white, black and a little red. Shading is very gentle, and so are the colours, but these make the dress look real. Only her shoes are a bit shiny, which feels odd for me, but oh well, I'll get over it. From a distance, the paint looks perfect, and sometimes it feels a bit too detailed (such as the nails), if you consider that there are also many flaws clearly noticeable if you look closer (on her shoes or on where two black frilly layers are connected to her skirt). They didn't bother too much with what's under the skirt, the panties are plain white (I'd hoped for some shimapan). And another disturbing thing is that the skirt isn't painted properly on the insides, and it's skin coloured on the upper regions near her waist. Still very good job, Griffon.
Base: 7/10
Stupid Griffon base, worst part of the figure. I looked up some rewievs of other Griffon figures, and it seems that they all come with the same type of base: unnecessarily large, black, plastic, elliptical, dull and boring. It gets dirty very easily and it seems a bit too light and fragile to me, considering the weight of the figure. And the pegs on her legs don't fit completely into the holes, so Haruhi isn't stabile at all. I had to rearrange the books on my drawers because the base was too large to stay safely on the Tolkien books (now she's on the Eragon trilogy). I liked the little silver nametable on the front however, reading Haruhi Suzumiya, Gothic Lolita ver., Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It looks cool, but still cannot compensate the fact that the base is not the best.
Enjoyment: 10/10
Despite all the bad things I listed about her, I think she's absolutely a must have for all Haruhi fans (although I know it's very hard to get her lately and I was extremely lucky). I don't like her shoes, but otherwise her outfit is gorgeous. And I still find the base and the box way too large, but that's because I'm lazy and I hated recomposing my bookshelves and drawers just to be able to display her and the box as well. Even so, she was worth that horrible amount of money I paid for her, and I highly recommend the figure for everyone who is fond of this beautiful tsundere goddess.
I hope you found my review helpful, and I kindly want to ask you to leave a comment if you didn't, telling me why (so I can improve). Thanks :)
